IRONMANがワフーとのパートナーシップを発表している。

今やインドアトレーナーの代表格として、トライアスリートには人気のメーカーだ。より、デバイスなど周辺機器への発展も進んで来ている。

現時点ではプロダクトのコラボ製品などのリリースはないが、昨年発売のELEMNT RIVALマルチスポーツGPSウォッチのIRONMANモデルも期待できるのではないだろうか。

北米のIRONMAN70.3シリーズの2022年皮切りとなる「OCEANSIDE」が開催された。

トライアスロンを象徴するようなロケーションとなるカリフォルニアで開催されるOCEANSIDEは、2600人以上のトライアスリートが集まる人気大会となってる。

男子プロ優勝は、カナダのJackson Laundry、女子プロは、アメリカのTaylor Knibbとなっている。Laundryは70.3を専門とし、安定感のある選手だ。今回SUB4は14名の選手が犇く中、バイクラップ1位とランの終盤の追い上げなど見せ場を作って、3時間44分の好タイムで優勝となっている。安定したハイスピードは、今後ロングでも期待出来る選手だろう。バイクはIRONMANバイクのVENTUMを使用している。

一方、Knibbは、WTCS横浜でもお馴染み（昨年1位）だろう。基本は、オリンピックを主戦場とする選手だが、昨年から70.3にも出場し、世界選手権では3位となっている。昨年8月のPTOコリンズカップ（トータル100kmでショートからロングの選手が同一カテゴリーとして競うレース）でのバイクパフォーマンスの高さは、幅広いカテゴリーでの活躍が期待される選手だった。バイクは、ショートと同じロード（Specialized Tarmac）で出場したことも驚きに湧き話題となっていた。今シーズンからTREKとなり、バイクはNew Speedconceptだった。

そして、日本からは上田藍選手がIRONMAN70.3の2戦目として出場し、プロカテゴリーで12位となっている。この後、4/23（土）開催のIRONMAN TEXASにフルの初参戦予定となっている。

JACKSON LAUNDRY (CAN) AND TAYLOR KNIBB (USA) CLAIM VICTORIES AT ATHLETIC BREWING IRONMAN 70.3 OCEANSIDE TRIATHLON TO KICK OFF THE 2022 NORTH AMERICAN IRONMAN 70.3 RACE SEASON

– Over 2,600 athletes converged in southern California for longstanding and popular IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (April 2, 2022) – Oceanside, California and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton once again played host to the Athletic Brewing IRONMAN^® 70.3^® Oceanside triathlon on Saturday, April 2 kicking off the 2022 North American IRONMAN 70.3 schedule. With many of triathlon’s best on hand, the event saw Jackson Laundry (CAN) overtake the field in the final half mile to win the overall race finishing with a time of 3:45:00, while Taylor Knibb (USA) provided a dominate performance in the women’s professional race finishing with a time of 4:06:32, securing her first IRONMAN 70.3 victory. The race was featured live on Outside TV, and was the first in a series of 11 IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon events from across globe to broadcast exclusively on the platform.

In a thrilling photo finish for second place, Lionel Sanders (CAN) edged out Rudy von Berg (USA) for second spot on the podium finishing less than a second behind each other with a time of 3:45:33 and 3:45:33, respectively. In the professional women’s race, Luisa Baptista (BRA) took second in 4:08:45, while Holly Lawrence (GBR) finished in third with a time of 4:09:17

The 2022 Athletic Brewing IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside triathlon saw more than 2,600 athletes start the race. Competitors ranged in age from 18-80 years old. The event led athletes along a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run throughout Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and the city of Oceanside. The competition began with a beach start that saw athletes swim around and exit in Oceanside Harbor before they embarked on the single-loop bike course that ventured through the rolling hills of Camp Pendleton and San Onofre Bluffs State Park. The flat and fast two-loop run course took athletes along the scenic southern California coast before an exciting finish on two iconic Oceanside landmarks including the Strand and the Oceanside Pier. The event offered 75 age-group qualifying slots to the 2022 Intermountain Healthcare IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship presented by Utah Sports Commission in St. George, Utah, taking place on Oct. 28 & 29, 2022.

ASIA WELCOMES NEW RACE WITH IRONMAN 70.3 PUERTO PRINCESA IN THE PHILIPPINES 

PHILIPPINES / TAMPA, Fla. (March 28, 2022) – IRONMAN announced today that Asia is adding a brand new IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon to its race calendar, with Puerto Princesa in Philippines.
 
The inaugural IRONMAN^® 70.3^® Puerto Princesa triathlon is set to be held on Sunday, 13 November 2022, with athletes from across Philippines and around the world making their way to Puerto Princesa, the capital city of Palawan.
 
The city is known as a ‘Princess of Ports’, or Puerto Princesa in Spanish, due to its geographical location. Historical records also suggest that the city was named after a Spanish princess, in the 1860s.
It is naturally protected from weather all year round, with enough depth to allow ships of all sizes to anchor.
 
Puerto Princesa has the best of both city and nature packed into one. It is home to the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, one the ‘new’ seven wonders of nature and a UNESCO World Heritage site that contains a full ‘mountain-to-sea’ ecosystem, and the highly urbanized city also sits beside one of the world’s most beautiful coastlines. The city has the largest forest cover in Philippines, and one of the healthiest coral reefs, making Puerto Princesa Asia’s ecological paradise destination of choice – and a great place for triathlon racing.
 
Athletes can look forward to racing in one of Philippines’ greenest cities, while taking in the views of the bay and even spot long-nosed dolphins, turtles, and rays. Puerto Princesa is a tourist city, with many beach resorts and seafood restaurants to please both athlete and supporter.  
 
The IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Princesa triathlon will offer a 1.9km (1.2-mile) swim course from the Puerto Princesa Bay Walk Park before embarking on a 90km (56-mile) scenic three-loop ride from the southern part of Puerto Princesa to the Iwahig Bridge. The 21.1km (13.1-mile) run will take athletes along the bay to the city centre, allowing athletes to enjoy some of the best scenery before their IRONMAN 70.3 finish line in the Ramon Mitra Jr. Sports Complex.

EXCITEMENT OF IRONMAN 70.3 RACING HEADED FOR TASMANIA

HOBART / TAMPA (March 8, 2022) – IRONMAN announced today that the Australian island state Tasmania will become the newest addition to the IRONMAN 70.3 Oceania calendar with a five-year agreement, running through 2027.
 
The inaugural IRONMAN® 70.3® Tasmania triathlon is set to be held on Sunday 5 February 2023, with athletes from across Australia and around the world to make their way to Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania.
 
Athletes will not only breathe in all the stunning region has to offer, but also take on a spectacular and challenging course in and around the historic city of Hobart. Tasmania features breathtakingly wild landscapes, untamed and seemingly purpose built for adventure. Tasmania provides the opportunity to reconnect with nature in the morning, critique the latest in modern art in the afternoon and have your choice of world-class dining options in the evening.

The IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania triathlon will offer a 1.9km (1.2-mile) swim course in the Derwent River that hugs the historic Battery Point before embarking on a 90km (56-mile) ride with the most vertical gain of any IRONAMN 70.3 bike course in Oceania. The 21.1km (13.1-mile) run will allow athletes to enjoy some of the best scenery in and around Hobart, with the world-famous IRONMAN 70.3 finish line to be alongside Princes Wharf.
 
IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania will also see some of the world’s best triathletes alongside more than 1,000 athletes, with the event to feature a male and female professional race.
 
Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein said the event would deliver around $2 million in economic benefits to Tasmania every year of the five-year agreement.

“This is fantastic news for Tasmanian sporting fans that will add to the state’s growing reputation for delivering elite sporting content,” the Premier said.
 
“With more than 170 IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlons worldwide, this will put our State on the map and once again showcase our stunning natural locations to the world.
 
“Local tourism and hospitality businesses will reap the benefits, with more than 1000 competitors and their supporters coming to Tasmania and eating and shopping in local businesses, and staying at local hotels. 
 
“For those competing, best of luck with your training in the year ahead and I look forward to welcoming you to Tasmania in 2023 for the inaugural event.”
 
Geoff Meyer, Managing Director of Oceania for The IRONMAN Group, said that the organisation was excited to bring IRONMAN 70.3 racing to Tasmania.
