For a behind the scenes view of what it takes to have a chance at world-title glory, tune into ‘A Fighting Chance’, the IRONMAN series providing an inside look to the inner, everyday lives of elite triathletes for a real, unfiltered look at the athlete journey leading up to race day live coverage. In the women’s professional field, this year’s coverage will focus on Daniela Ryf, Lucy Charles-Barclay, Heather Jackson, Skye Moench, and Anne Haug. In the men’s professional field, A Fighting Chance will follow Kristian Blummenfelt, Gustav Iden, Lionel Sanders, Tim O’Donnell, Braden Currie, Sebastian Kienle, Patrick Lange, Collin Chartier, and Cameron Wurf. A Fighting Chance, which airs on the @ironmantri social channels, will drop a new episode every day during race week, giving audiences a glimpse of what it takes to prepare for race day, as well as the staging behind such an iconic event.
While the number of athletes racing in IRONMAN events each year has increased considerably over the last 20 years, the number of athletes able to qualify for the IRONMAN World Championship has remained relatively flat. With the two-day format, top age-groupers deserving a chance to compete on the world’s stage will now have additional opportunities to qualify. Even with increased slots, however, it is expected that less than 6% of yearly IRONMAN participants around the world will ultimately make it to the IRONMAN World Championship. As one of the most sought-after experiences in all of mass participation sport, those who have made it to the IRONMAN World Championship continue to be among the world’s elite, equating to approximately 0.00006% of the world’s population.
Tune into live race-day coverage of the 2022 VinFast IRONMAN World Championship triathlon globally via IRONMAN Now™ available on Facebook Watch, YouTube and Twitch, as well as on NBC’s streaming service, Peacock.

TULSA, OKLAHOMA ADDS IRONMAN 70.3 TRIATHLON IN 2023; JOINS CERTIFIED PIEDMONTESE BEEF IRONMAN TULSA TRIATHLON, PART OF THE VINFAST U.S. SERIES, FOR A FULL DAY OF RACING
Inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Tulsa triathlon scheduled for Sunday, May 21, 2023; General registration is now open and can be accessed by visiting, www.ironman.com/im703-tulsa
TULSA, Okla. / TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 22, 2022) – IRONMAN announced today a new IRONMAN® 70.3®triathlon will be added in Tulsa, Okla. Providing for additional racing opportunities in the spring of 2023. The inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Tulsa half-distance race will take place on Sunday, May 21 in conjunction with the full-distance Certified Piedmontese Beef IRONMAN Tulsa triathlon, part of the VinFast IRONMAN U.S. Series. General registration for 2023 IRONMAN 70.3 Tulsa is open now and can be accessed by visiting, www.ironman.com/im703-tulsa.
“The demand we have seen for IRONMAN 70.3 racing around North America has been astounding and we are delighted to add an IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon to compliment the popular full-distance IRONMAN event here in Tulsa,” said Eric Atnip, Regional Director for The IRONMAN Group. “This new event will offer an even more robust day of racing and create additional racing opportunities for athletes. Tulsa has proven itself to be both an exciting and popular destination for athletes and their support crews, so adding an IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon to one of our popular communities with great local partners is something that just makes sense.”
Situated on the Arkansas River between the Osage Hills and the foothills of the Ozark Mountains in northeast Oklahoma, Tulsa is the second-largest city in the state. Tulsa boasts a wide variety of attractions, including Gathering Place (the largest privately funded public park in the country), Philbrook and Gilcrease museums, the Tulsa Zoo, and the Oklahoma Aquarium. Visitors can also enjoy professional baseball and soccer at the downtown stadium, ONEOK Field. Tulsa is known as a barbeque town but also boasts James Beard award-winning seafood and internationally renowned craft beer. The city prides itself on offering big-city experiences in a completely different way: no huge crowds, no big attitudes, just plenty to do for you and your whole group.
“The addition of the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon option this year will make our event even more enticing to both locals and out-of-towners who want to experience the Tulsa course,” said Renee McKenney, Senior Vice President of Tourism of Tulsa Regional Chamber and President of Tulsa Regional Tourism. “With the route showcasing Green Country from the serene Osage Hills to the bustling finish line in the heart of Tulsa, we are confident that athletes and spectators will have an experience they won’t forget.”
The IRONMAN 70.3 Tulsa triathlon will offer qualifying slots to the 2023 VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place on August 26-27, 2023 in Lahti, Finland.
