■TIMEX IRONMAN 1986 8LAP \12,000 + tax
タイメックスは、アメリカのブランドでなんと言ってアイアンマンで有名となったブランドだ。創業は1854年、ディズニーウォッチなども手がけ、1984年には、アイアンマンのオフィシャルタイマーとなった。そして、1986年に「アイアンマントライアスロン8ラップ」をリリースし当時40万本以上のセールスを記録した。
ハワイアイアンマンでは、最も知名度の高いスポンサーであり、「IRONMAN = TIMEX」と言っても過言ではないだろう。例年アイアンマンエキスポでは、大きなブースを構え、大会限定アイテムなどが超人気となり、大いに世界のアイアンマンたちを楽しませてくれている。
昨年12月号でも紹介した1986年復刻モデルをベースに、スペシャルカラーバージョンがリリースされた。カラーリングが特徴的で、1980年代を代表する全米バスケットボールチームの人気チームのカラーをオマージュ的に配したものだ。カラフルにまとまったスペシャル感の強いレアアイテムとなっている。今回は、アイアンマンとバスケットがコラボしたというよりは、最もアメリカを象徴する時計ブランドのタイメックスとして、80年代にリリースされた8LAPと同じく80年代を沸かせたバスケットの名勝負をコラボさせ、色褪せない「伝説」が不朽のものであることを物語っている。そんなアメリカ代表の時計ブランドなのだ。

今月のトリガー大塚担当分ご紹介します。
■KASK インフィニティ
カスクは、100%イタリアのブランドで、チームSKYの使用するヘルメットとして、人気となっている。イタリアブランドながら、日本人でも合わせやすいヘルメットだ。
昨今、「エアロ」が注目される中、いち早く、「マルチ」なエアロヘルメットに注力している。
ハワイアイアンマンでは、「丸っこい」ヘルメットのバンビーノで話題となっているカスク。まだ、ブランドのシェアはこれからだが、確実に伸ばしてくるブランドだ。ツールドフランスでも使っていた、というイメージが強みで、トライアスロンでも人気が出ている。
このヘルメットの特徴は、一般型のヘルメットとエアロ系のヘルメットの中間と言える造りとなっていることだ。全体的に丸いフォルムだが、バンビーノなどと違い、「普通」な感じなので、誰でも被りやすい。そして、最大の特長は、ヘルメット前部のエアベント「AERO CONTROL SYSTEM」が開閉できるということで、シーンに合わせ調整して走れるマルチヘルメットなのだ。重量は軽くはないが、機能面が大きなメリットとなるヘルメットだ。
実際の使用感だが、これはカスクそのものの被りやすさ、フィット感の高さはいつも通りで、安心して使用できる。また、ベントの開閉は、ストラップを留めていれば、硬くも緩くもなく、スムーズな開閉ができる。実際、今年のツールドフランスでもゴールスプリント直前に閉めて走っている。トライアスロンでは、フラットの高速走行時に閉めて、アップダウンでは開く。もちろん、速度だけではなく、気温などに合わせて調整するのも良いだろう。まさにこれも「トライアスロン的」なヘルメットと言える。
■ポラール V800
ポラールは、医療機器から始まったフィンランドのブランドで、ハートレートモニターの草分けとも言える。90年代にハートレートトレーニングが定着しつつあるころ、第一人者的ブランドがポラールだった。アイアンマンの世界でも、人気となり、多くのトッププロが使用し、その地位を築いたのだ。そして、昨年アイアンマンチャンピオンのフレデリックバンリルデも使用しているトレーニングデバイスだ。
機能としては、トライアスロン、マルチスポーツ用として、スイム、バイク、ランを通して使用できることだ。バイクやランのセンサーはBluetoothによる通信となる。まず、特徴としてスマートコーチングが、カロリー消費から、トレーニング効果の確認、同時にトレーニング負荷の身体への影響なども把握することができる。そして、回復に必要な時間も把握できる。もちろんGPS搭載で、スピード、距離、ルートを記録してくれる。GPS搭載となるとやや大型化してしまうが、このモデルは小型化にも成功している。気圧センサーにより、高度、傾斜、温度など地形情報も確認できる。また、ポラールトレーニングコンピュータ初の日本語表示が可能となった。
スマートフォン対応のPolar FlowモバイルアプリにBluetoothでワイヤレス同期すれば、いつでもどこでもトレーニングデータの確認が可能になる。
実物だが、操作性を重視した扱い易さがあり、重量は79gだが、厚みは12.7mmと薄型なため装着感が良い。そして極めて質感の高い逸品に仕上がっている。

Muskoka, Ontario named as host of new IRONMAN TRIATHLON
TO BE HELD ON August 30, 2015

TAMPA, Fla. (July 24, 2014) – IRONMAN announced today that Muskoka, Ontario, Canada has been selected to host the fourteenth race in the IRONMAN® North American Series. The inaugural IRONMAN Muskoka triathlon will take place on Sunday, August 30, 2015. In addition, IRONMAN announced that the existing IRONMAN 70.3 Muskoka triathlon will now shift dates to Sunday, July 5, 2015, making it the ideal training race for IRONMAN Muskoka.
“IRONMAN 70.3 Muskoka has been a premiere race for the IRONMAN brand in the region and we are thrilled to expand our offerings in Canada with the addition of IRONMAN Muskoka,” said Andrew Messick, Chief Executive Officer of IRONMAN. “Muskoka is rich in triathlon history, including hosting the ITU Triathlon World Championship in 1992. We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with the Town of Huntsville, TriMuskoka and the Deerhurst Resort to deliver an amazing race for our athletes.”
One of more than 35 events in the global IRONMAN Series, IRONMAN Muskoka will lead athletes through a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run that takes place in the beautiful Deerhurst Resort and the surrounding scenic areas of Muskoka. The race will provide athletes with a challenging and scenic course along lakes, rivers, towering forests, granite outcroppings, hills and valleys that utilizes much of the historical IRONMAN 70.3 Muskoka course. The race will start with a single loop 2.4-mile swim in the picturesque Peninsula Lake. The two-loop bike course circles Lake of Bays, passing through the small communities of Dwight, Dorset, and Baysville. The two-loop run will take competitors through the Muskoka region and historic downtown Huntsville as they enter the Spectator Zone, finishing their day back at the Deerhurst Resort.
“The Town of Huntsville is thrilled to be hosting Ontario’s first IRONMAN triathlon in 2015 as well as 2016 and 2017,” said Mayor Claude Doughty. “This event is an excellent fit for our community as triathlons provide an ideal way to showcase our beautiful landscape while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle to our residents and visitors. The positive energy and attention that this event will bring to our region will be outstanding and we are truly honored to be hosting a sporting event that is as world renowned as an IRONMAN.”

IRONMAN Muskoka will offer 50 age group slots to the 2016 IRONMAN World Championship taking place on Oct. 8, 2016 in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.

今年のアイアンマン開催まで3ヶ月となった。
プロ、エイジともに年々レベルが上がり、出場は極めて「狭き門」となっている。プロは、シード選手以外、アイアンマン連戦の中での出場、エイジ選手も、9時間台が当たり前となってきている。厳しい出場枠を賭けて、プロもエイジも「全力」で臨むアイアンマン。そんなレベルのハワイは、予選アイアンマンとは空気が違う。その「空気」を、今年もしっかりと伝えたい。

【機材】
サーベロのシェア1位は変わらないだろう。トレック＆スぺシャライズドがどこまで迫るのか。はたまた新たなブランドが来るのか。今年も機材バトルが注目となる。NewP3の登場により、高額なP5は減ってしまうのかもしれない。NewP2も登場し、サーベロのシェアも新旧のモデルが入れ替わるのか、2015年に向け「サーベロの勢い」が見れることになる。今年はややニューモデルが少ない中で注目の一つが、スライスのフルモデルチェンジだ。途中スライスRSが追加になったが、2008年に登場したスライスは7年というロングセラーだったが、ついにモデルチェンジした。そして、各社からの「ニューモデル」のお披露目とその性能は発揮されるのか。などなど、今から「興奮状態」になる最高のステージがアイアンマンだ。

【大会】
昨年はフレデリックバンリルデが勝った。そして、もっともレースを盛り上げたのが2位に入ったルークマッケンジーだった。バイクで大きく揺さぶりをかける見ごたえのあるレース展開だった。このアイアンマンの予想は難しい。スイムフィニッシュ後のポジション、刻々と変わるコナウィンド、自身のコンディション、そして、無謀な走りかと思える「新しい顔」が、レースの流れを変えるからだ。今年のヒーローは誰なのか？世界最速のアイアンマンチャンピオンの決まる瞬間を目撃したい。

昨年は2名、一昨年は4名が参加した。これから「最終決戦」に向け、練習を積んでいる。エイジグループながら、フルタイムワーカーとは思えない徹底した練習量は、半端なものではない。「仕事ではないが、遊びとも言えない」その厳しい練習に耐え抜き、その力をレースに「合わせる」ことができたもののみが手にする「出場権」は今や極めて厳しいものとなっている。今年のチームYはすでに2名が出場権を獲得している。

IRONMAN Acquires Tritlon Spain SL – Challenge Barcelona and Half Challenge Barcelona
To become IRONMAN® Barcelona and IRONMAN® 70.3® Barcelona
TAMPA, Fla. (April 15, 2014) – IRONMAN announced today the acquisition of Tritlon Spain SL, owners and organizers of Challenge Barcelona and Half Challenge Barcelona. These races will now be operated as IRONMAN® Barcelona and IRONMAN® 70.3® Barcelona and will be held on October 5, 2014 and May 18, 2014 respectively. In addition, a future long-distance triathlon will take place in Peguera,
Mallorca. IRONMAN will now have seven races in Spain, including IRONMAN® Lanzarote, IRONMAN® 70.3® Lanzarote, IRONMAN® Mallorca and the Thomas Cook IRONMAN® 70.3® Mallorca.
“We are thrilled to continue expanding our global event calendar with the acquisition of Tritlon Spain,” said Andrew Messick, Chief Executive Officer of IRONMAN. “Tritlon has laid the foundation for what we believe will be amazing IRONMAN races that have a strong spirit and community support. With this announcement Calella will bolster its reputation as one of Europe’s up-and-coming triathlon hotspots. This tourism and sport destination is located at the “Costa del Maresme”, just 50 kilometers from the city of Barcelona.
“These races have become key dates in our annual event calendar with positive economic and social impact on our community. With IRONMAN, the sport of triathlon will fully arrive in our region and we welcome the athletes, partners and global team with open arms and hearts,” adds Montserrat Candini, Mayor of Calella.
IRONMAN Barcelona will have a 50,000 € professional prize purse and will be a P-2000 race. Additionally, the race will offer 50 age group slots to the 2015 IRONMAN World Championship taking place on Oct. 10, 2015 in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.
IRONMAN 70.3 Barcelona will have a 25,000 € professional prize purse and will be a P-750 race. Additionally, the race will offer 30 age group slots to the 2014 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place on September 7, 2014 Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada.

今月のトリガー大塚担当分ご紹介します。
■ルディープロジェクト2014モデルヘルメット「ウィング57」
ルディは、サングラス、ヘルメットをリリースするイタリアのブランドで、以前はロード色の強いブランドだった。その後アイアンマンを中心に、「TTヘルメットのルディ」として注目され、トライアスリートの定番ブランドとなった。
ハワイアイアンマンでは、サングラスのサーベロと言ったところだろうか。いや、それ以上かもしれない。昨年は、一昨年の354個にちょうど300個増やしての654個。3人に1人はルディをかぶっているのだ。この急激な増加で、ハワイもルディ一色となった。他社の「丸っこい」ヘルメットが注目を浴びているが、何処吹く風と言った感じ。「ショートTT」の決定版となった。
このモデルは昨年のハワイでお披露目されていたが、ウィングスパンをベースに進化させたものでより軽量性と通気性を高めている。まずは、ショートTTのフォルム、エアロダイナミクスが高く、幅広くかぶりやすいものだ。前作同様の大きなフロントベンチレーションは、オープン、クローズ、そして、メッシュによる調整など、気温の高い環境で行われるトライアスロンに対して、適応している。言ってみればTTヘルメットではなく、トライアスロンのためのヘルメットなのだ。
■Speedfil complete system
スピードフィルは、2007年創業のアメリカンブランドで、ハイドレーションアイテムを製作している。昨年のハワイアイアンマンにおいて、注目の3大アイテムとして、サドル、ヘルメット、そしてハイドレーションが話題となった。その中でも昨年が新世代のスタートとも言えるのが、「ハイドレーション対策グッズ」だった。各社開発に余念がなく、鎬を削っている。バイクやホイールよりもその「使い勝手」が厳しく評価されるアイテムとして、更なる便利グッズとしての開発が楽しみなアイテムだ。
スピードフィルは、数年前からアイアンマンエキスポのケストレルブースで紹介されていた。今回のフレームボトル型は、スピードフィルの象徴的なアイテムで、大容量の1.2リットル。一般的はハンドル取付型が、700~950ミリリットルなので、かなりな大容量と言える。結果として、補充の回数が減ることにもなる。このフレームボトル型は、フレーム内蔵型のSHIVなどに次ぐ使用率の後付ハイドレーションでもある。2013年からフレームボトル型があらためてカウントされるほどの注目度。そして、ハンドルより、フレーム中央部に取付けることにより、バイクの安定性は向上、理想的なボトルポジションでもあるのだ。

【WTCｵﾌｨｼｬﾙNEWS】 Alexander calls time on IRONMAN racing
アイアンマンにおいて３度の優勝を果たした、クロウィこと、グレイグアレキサンダーが引退した。現在のアイアンマンは、強豪が毎年現れ、犇く中で、一度の優勝も大変なこと。そんな近年のアイアンマンで優勝含め、長く上位にいた偉大な選手。当初はランの強い選手として、ずば抜けた走りをしていたが、徐々にバイクのレベルも上がり、バイク＋ランで勝負する、最強のアイアンマンだった。
2011年レース終了後にクロウィーと撮った写真。普段のクロウィは気さくで優しい笑顔の選手、疲れも見せず写真に入ってくれました。チーム・Yの「名誉会員」です。勝手に。（＾＾；
